Maya Grajczyk and Dominic Tommasi of the Sonoma Sea Dragon’s swim team competed in the 2013 Far Western Long Course Championships, the fastest swim meet on the west coast.

Some of the best 18-and-under swimmers from the western United States (as well as a few from Texas, Canada, Connecticut Mexico and Missouri) took part in the meet, where some of the best swimmers in history got their start, said coach Jane Hansen. Natalie Coughlin and Michael Phelps both competed at the Far Western Championships in their youth.

Grajczyk qualified for two breaststroke events, the 50-meter breaststroke (38.91) and the 100 meter breaststroke (1:26.78).  Both times earn Maya a distinction of PRT, Pacific Recognition Time, a motivational time standard set by Pacific Swimming that puts her in an elite league, Hansen said. “Maya has been swimming with the Sea Dragons since the age of six and continues to top the board in her age group.”

Tommasi qualified in three events: the 50 freestyle (26.6), the 100m freestyle (1:04.69) and the 50 butterfly (29.23). His 100 freestyle time is a PRT. “Dominic joined the team in 2011 and has been blazing up the ranks as his hard work continues to pay off, making him one of the best 11-12 yr. boys in our zone,” Hansen said.
