Two young Springs boys playing in the street sustained minor injuries when hit by a car Monday morning. Kimberly Downey, 56, of Sonoma, was driving south on Sierra Drive at 15 to 20 mph when her car struck a 6-year-old boy riding a scooter and a 4-year-old boy who was running behind him.

Downey told the CHP the boys were heading into the southbound lane directly into the path of her Chevy HHR. She said she tried to avoid a collision but was unable to do so, according to CHP Officer Anna Paulson.

The two boys suffered minor injuries and were taken by the Sonoma Valley Fire Department’s ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Paulson said. The accident occurred at about 10:50 a.m.
