Sonoma’s big win

The Sonoma Cubs celebrate winning the North Bay Travel League tournament championship Saturday in Rhonert Park, a 4-3 comeback win over the previously undefeated #1 seed Petaluma Impact.

Pictured are (back row) Nolan Dunkle, Dom Fiorito, Luigi Dito, and Tanner Rozema; (kneeling) Brady Armitage, Anthony Tommasi, Sam Fanucchi, Will Natuzzi, and Jack Boydell; (ground) Riley Phelan. Managed by Johnny Armitage, the 11-year-olds were the #3 seed after the league’s inaugural season.

The Cubs won three consecutive games beating the #4 seed Nor Cal Storm 13-4, then the #2 seed Petaluma Aces 10-4. In the championship game, Sonoma got a combined effort on the mound from Dunkle, Dito and Boydell combining for a three-hitter while striking out eight. Sonoma was led offensively by two hits apiece from Tommasi, Fiorito and Boydell.

The team coaches are Curt Dunkle, Saul Rozema, David Boydell and Mike Fanucchi.
