Success for Sonoma’s traveling little leaguers

Comprised of players from Sonoma Little League, the Sonoma Stack under-9 traveling baseball team took 2nd place in the annual “Edge of Darkness” tournament in Fremont.

Sonoma went 2-0 on the first day of the tournament by beating the East Bay Bandits 12-5, and the Los Gatos Giants 10-5. The Stack was then the #2 seed heading into the brackets on Sunday.

Sonoma started the first of its 3 games on Sunday by demolishing the Alameda Attack 17-1, and then advanced to the finals with a 7-4 win over the Los Gatos Giants 7-4.

The championship game matched Sonoma against the tournament’s other undefeated team, the #1 seed San Francisco Dons.

Manager Johnny Armitage said the game was very tense and exciting, a back-and-forth affair which saw Sonoma take a 2-0 lead, and come back from a 4-2 deficit to take a 5-4 lead going into the final inning. In its final at bat, San Francisco got a 2 out, 2 run walk-off double to take home the championship.
