Foot chase in Temelec. A passenger in a car stashed with drugs jumped out of the stopped vehicle and briefly evaded police by running through the backyards of several Temelec homes on November 30. While the car was being searched and its driver detained, witnesses reported another vehicle had suspiciously slowed down nearby – perhaps to pick up the fugitive? – before driving away. It was soon spotted and pulled over by another squad car, at Arnold and Orange. Sure enough, the wanted man was in the back seat. Age 20, out of Aqua Caliente, the man was charged with resisting arrest and violating probation. The driver of that car, a 31-year-old El Verano Man, was booked for drunk driving. Meanwhile, police said a search of the first car, a white Honda registered to a gang member, turned up concentrated cannabis packaged for sale, along with open alcohol containers and a burglary tool. The driver, 20, also from Agua Caliente, was jailed for possession of marijuana for sale, possession of burglary tools, and driving without a license, among other charges.
The party’s over
Alcohol, no surprise, fueled an argument that boiled over into domestic violence for a Sonoma couple on December 1. The twosome had dinner on the Plaza when they began fighting over whether to go home, or have more cocktails. Fighting, pushing and yelling ensued. By the time cops arrived to the 1:50 a.m. scuffle, the man had scratch marks on his face and neck. The woman, 58, weepy, upset and drunk, claimed her attack was in self-defense. Officers disagreed.
Stranger at the door
Residents of a home in the 200 block of Andrieux will never know why the odd, disheveled stranger chose their doorbell to ring at about 7:30 p.m. on December 1. Police responding to the report saw the man stumbling down the street, and asked him to halt. The drunken suspect, a 32-year-old Sonoma man, was initially disinclined to acquiesce to the request. After actions that constituted resisting arrest, he was forced to the ground, handcuffed and booked for public intoxication.
Fragile state of mind
The son of an emotionally brittle 73-year-old Sonoma woman related an alarming statement to police on December 1: his mother had threatened to commit suicide. At her Del Rio Paseo home, the woman told police she “had been a bad person, and didn’t want to live any longer.” As per protocol, she was taken to Kaiser Hospital for a psychiatric examination.
Barging in
A woman unknown to residents of the Sweetwater Spectrum campus entered the facility on Fifth Street West and barricaded herself in a room. Police talked the Sonoma woman out at about 4 p.m. on December 1, whereupon the case grew even more curious. The woman, 27, lived nearby on West Verano Avenue, and her purse was full of mail pilfered from neighbors’ mailboxes, including an iPod. She also had a laptop and other items stolen from the office of a nearby church. Not surprisingly, her past reveals busts for possessing stolen property, and drug and alcohol abuse.
Texas hold’em
A woman pulled over on Arnold Drive at 3:07 a.m. on November 30 denied being drunk; in fact, she claimed to be the designated driver — even though there was nobody else in the car. The tags on her BMW had expired, but the pervasive smell of weed and booze – and failure of her sobriety tests – were bigger problems for the 25-year-old from Dripping Springs, Texas, as was the weed in her backpack. Despite teary protestations, she was booked for a DUI.
Drunk of the Week
A man phoned police headquarters on the evening of November 29 concerned about someone’s welfare – his own. The 36-year-old transient said he was drinking with friends in a field near Harrison school. As it turned out, the location was Sassarini. His friends long gone, the inebriate was found swaying in the moonlight, “just looking at the stars, man.” Cleary hammered, the man was booked for public intoxication and violating probation.
