Black Swan makes unexpected visit

Posted on December 13, 2013 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Resisting arrest in a 7-11 parking lot is nothing new, unless the perp is a rare black swan. The bird, gorgeous but angry, showed up out of nowhere at the convenience store on West Napa Street on Friday morning, hissing and charging at customers and generally making a nuisance of himself.

It took police several hours to net and cage the proud bird, which was then taken to a “foster ranch.” Officers said the swan was not friendly, but was clearly domesticated. It was unafraid of people, and did not fly or attempt to fly during the showdown.

But where did it come from? City staff said no swans live in or frequent the Plaza duck ponds.
