Sonoma Valley Fund expands board
Sonoma Valley Fund, an affiliate of Community Foundation Sonoma County, has elected five new community leaders to its board: Barbara Hughes; Penney Magrane, Valerie Pistole; Mandy Bolling; and Richard Dale.
“Each of these new board members brings enormous experience and a wealth of community knowledge to our board and will be invaluable resources for Sonoma Valley Fund and all of our nonprofit partners,” says Joshua Rymer, the fund’s newly elected president.
Barbara Hughes served Community Foundation Sonoma County as president and chief executive officer from 2009 until her retirement in 2013. Prior to joining the foundation, she advised a range of nonprofit clients on business planning, governance and leadership. She presently serves on the advisory councils for the Jack London State Historic Park and for 10,000 Degrees/Sonoma County. Barbara lives in Sonoma with her husband Greg.
Penney Magrane founded Magrane Associates Landscape Design in 1986 in San Francisco. Thirty-two years later, Penney still runs the business, which now has offices in San Francisco and Sonoma. Penney and her wife of 27 years, Dr. Joan Howley, are full-time residents of Sonoma.
Valerie Pistole is a principal in the firm of Walter & Pistole. Prior to moving her practice to the city of Sonoma, she was a trial attorney in civil and felony criminal matters in the nine Superior Courts of the Northern California counties and the Northern and Eastern District Federal Courts of California. She now works primarily in estate planning and business law. The Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation honored Valerie as Woman of Year.
Mandy Bolling has worked as an environmental activist, journalist and Marriage/Family Therapist. She began her professional career working as the Northern California Campus Coordinator for Earth Day 1990, then became Director of Special Events for Friends of the River, and Editorial Coordinator at the San Francisco Bay Guardian. In 2002, she became a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She lives in Glen Ellen with her husband and 7 year-old daughter.
Richard Dale is Executive Director of the Sonoma Ecology Center, whioch he co-founded, with nearly 30 years of experience in environmental policy and nonprofit management. He was recipient of the John Muir Conservation Award in 1997, and has built a unique partnership of local nonprofits to reopen and manage Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Kenwood.
