Volunteers needed for State Historic Parks

Posted on January 28, 2014 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Would you like to work behind the scenes in one of California’s Historic State Parks? Sonoma and Petaluma State Historic Parks are seeking volunteers for various positions inside and outside park buildings.

Volunteers are needed to help with museum housekeeping at the Toscano Hotel and Kitchen in Sonoma and the Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park. Sonoma State Historic Park needs gardeners for various sites in Sonoma. Volunteer docents for the Sonoma Barracks are also needed.

Another option is to Work at home or in a park office at your own pace as a State Park Archive Binder Coordinator. “These behind the scenes positions are extremely valuable to our local State Parks,” said volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Hanson

Volunteering for State Parks offers many benefits, Hanson said. “As a Volunteer in State Parks, you can meet new and interesting people, be involved with the community, participate in special events, discover Sonoma’s rich history, attend trainings and special volunteer events, plus be behind the scenes in State Parks.

The next California State Parks orientation and training is Saturday, February 22, and on another date with a site supervisor. After training, a minimum commitment of four hours a month is required.

To sign up for the training and become a volunteer, contact Hanson at 742.4871 or [email protected].
