Sonoma child molester gets life sentence
Kenneth Donald Hutchins, 65, of Sonoma, received the maximum sentence of 8 years, 8 months, plus 55 years to life in prison for sexually molesting his eight year-old grandniece in January 2012.
Hutchins was convicted after trial by a Sonoma County jury, on December 2, 2013, of four counts of sexual molestation.
“This child molester preyed on his young, vulnerable grandniece in the most detestable way,” District Attorney Ravitch said Thursday. “This sentence should preserve public safety by preventing his access to other children, and we hope it brings this courageous child some peace and assists in her healing.”
Hutchins was arrested on the morning of January 16, 2013, after the then 8-year-old victim disclosed to her brother that the defendant had sexually molested her. Sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant and found videos of child pornography in an end table in the defendant’s living room. During the trial, the victim testified to several acts of molestation by the defendant.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Barbara Nanney assisted by District Attorney Investigator Robert DeMiguel. The Sonoma County Sheriffs Department headed the investigation.
