Ecumenical Good Friday service

Posted on April 12, 2014 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Valley Ministerial Association presents its annual ecumenical Good Friday service, hosted by Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 275 E. Spain St. The service begins at 12:15 on Friday April 18. Everyone is welcome!

Clergy and lay leaders from valley churches and ministries will be participating in this annual service, whose highlight is the reading of the Passion according to the Gospel of Mark. The Passion text tells the story of the events beginning after the Last Supper, and ending with placing Jesus in the tomb after his crucifixion. Ministerial Association members bring this text to life as they give voice to Christ, Pilate, the High Priest, and more.

Participating leaders this year are: Rev. Rich Gantenbein of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church; Rev. Tim Arensmeier of Sonoma Valley Community Church; Rev. Tim Christenson of Faith Presbyterian Church; Rev. Ted Virts of Sonoma United Methodist Church; Rev. Nancy Taylor of First Congregational Church, UCC; Rev. Phina Borgersonof Trinity Episcopal Church; Rev. Kathy Speas, our newly retired hospice chaplain; Rev. Rob Angus Jones, pastoral counselor; and Donna Thomas of the Sonoma Mission of the Church of Scientology.”

  1. Scientology is a cult, and does not belong with Christian ministers speaking about Christ. The reason is simple, Hubbard’s “scripture” says that there was no Christ, it is “R6” which is spiritual brainwashing that took place 75 million years ago.
