Editor: Ron Willis’ 4/10 Sun column about Vladimir Putin and the true believer right wing in the US was right on!
The trouble with these folks is an adherence to an unreflective fundamentalist literalism, the same that we see with the right wing of Iran, Israel and other places. There can be no discussion with a denial of the whole modern world or the basic capacity of reason. True believers are like broken records; they say the same thing over and over and over. All discussion is predetermined, no way to step back and see any nuance.
I’ve always liked Eric Hoffer, here’s one from my collection: ‘The effectiveness of a doctrine does not come from it’s meaning but from it’s certitude.’
