'Thyme' for the plant sale

Gardening experts Robert Berner, 81, and Rosemarie Indelicato, 98 — Sonoma’s beloved “Mother and Father Thyme” –- get ready for the Valley of the Moon Garden Club’s Annual Spring Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 3, at the Sonoma Community Center.

Members have been busy preparing a variety of succulents, grasses, herbs, vegetable starts, and perennials for the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event, with an emphasis on water-wise and drought-tolerant plants. Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and share tips.

Rosemarie Indelicato, a lifetime member of the club known for her flowering cactus and vibrant poppies, will be the VIP Guest of Honor. Admission to the venue, at 276 E Napa St., is free.

The Valley of the Moon Garden Club is a thriving group promoting gardening, use of drought tolerant and native plants in landscaping, protection of natural habitats and environments, with an emphasis on organic gardening, and sharing gardening know-how through a speaker series and workshops. Club members volunteer at: the Tranquility Garden at Sonoma Valley Hospital; the Sassarini’s school garden; and at the Larson Park Community Gardens.
