'Thyme' for the plant sale

0514 Bob & Rosemarie & Plant Sale posterGardening experts Robert Berner, 81, and Rosemarie Indelicato, 98 — Sonoma’s beloved “Mother and Father Thyme” –- get ready for the Valley of the Moon Garden Club’s Annual Spring Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 3, at the Sonoma Community Center.

Members have been busy preparing a variety of succulents, grasses, herbs, vegetable starts, and perennials for the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event, with an emphasis on water-wise and drought-tolerant plants. Experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and share tips.

Rosemarie Indelicato, a lifetime member of the club known for her flowering cactus and vibrant poppies, will be the VIP Guest of Honor. Admission to the venue, at 276 E Napa St., is free.

The Valley of the Moon Garden Club is a thriving group promoting gardening, use of drought tolerant and native plants in landscaping, protection of natural habitats and environments, with an emphasis on organic gardening, and sharing gardening know-how through a speaker series and workshops. Club members volunteer at: the Tranquility Garden at Sonoma Valley Hospital; the Sassarini’s school garden; and at the Larson Park Community Gardens.

VOMGC Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month at the Sonoma Memorial Veterans Hall at 126 First St. W. in Sonoma, starting at 6:30 p.m. For information contact: Helaine Forte, Membership Chairperson at 707-337-3415.
