Your B&B room can now come with a bottle of wine, the Sonoma Planning Commission decided, okaying the Cottage Inn’s plan to build the cost of a bottle of wine into its room rate. Do the suites come with cheese, too?
Running in place? That was no elephant in the room at Monday’s Assembly District 10 forum, that was erstwhile candidate Veronica Jacoby. Though she dropped out of the race two weeks ago, she still joined actual candidates Erin Carlstrom and Diana Conti, and incumbent Marc Levine, on the panel. Apparently, because her name is on the ballot (she withdrew after it was printed) she is still an official candidate — even though she says she’s not, having endorsed Conti. Ever polite, none of the audience members included ‘What are you doing here?’ among its submitted questions. Perhaps for the best, Jacobi departed soon after the event began, to, she explained, catch the last bus home… The event was hosted by the Sonoma Valley Democrats at the clubhouse of Seven Flags Of Sonoma, which has been named the mobile home park of the year by the Golden State Manufactured-Home Owners League. Over 4,000 parks were eligible, so winning the “Exemplary Park Owner Award For 2014” is a big deal. The award is dedicated to Kathryn Mekjian-Robinson, and “all the staff, from management to groundskeepers, and the active involvement of the residents enables the park to be a safe and attractive place to live.” Park resident Maggie Bedord adds head gardener Dorothy Kindle to the list. “She is an inspiration for doing difficult manual labor and keeping the park looking beautiful.”
Giving away a free cup of coffee is a great way to promote your new business, especially if your new business is selling coffee. On Friday, May 16, Dutch Bros. Coffee is giving away free drinks all day, from 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., at its new location at 711 Broadway in Sonoma. “We are so excited to be a part of such a special community,” said local operator Joey Shoemaker. “We feel beyond fortunate to call it our home and cannot wait to rock the town with our grand opening weekend.”
Have you always secretly wanted to overthrow the government? The Bear Flag Revolt Acting Troupe will have an informational meeting in front of the Bear Flag Statue in the Sonoma Plaza on Sunday, May 18 at noon. Since 1898, a re-enactment of the historic event has been staged locally. This year, the Bear Flag Revolt Re-Enactment will take place three times: June 14, July 12, and Sept. 27. Says George Webber, chief factotum of the troupe, “Everyone may perform with us. This is a perfected non-profit, as there are no dues or fees of any kind, and we do the re-enactments for free. Costuming is easy, and acting experience is not required.”
