Nikarre Redcoff, currently a program specialist at the Sonoma County Office of Education, will begin as director of special education of the Sonoma Valley School District on July 1.

Redcoff has held teaching, administrative, supervisory, coaching and mentoring positions across her career, said Superintendent Louann Carlomagno, and has worked in a range of special education settings including comprehensive schools and non-public sites

Most recently, Redcoff served as a SELPA (Special Education Local Area Plan) Program Specialist at the Sonoma County Office of Education facilitating the implementation of the Response-To-Intervention (RTI) model in Sonoma county districts. She has also overseen the Special Education Self-Review process twice for 42 Sonoma county districts.

The hire is evidence that the district is well positioned to continue its support and advocacy for all students to graduate prepared for success, Carlomagno said. “Nikarre’s experience, expertise, and firsthand knowledge of the district and its schools will be invaluable as the district moves into the coming school year.”

Redcoff graduated from the University of Florida in 1987 with a Bachelors of Science in psychology and a Master’s degree in special education in 1990. She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and possesses an Educational Specialist teacher credential and an administrative credential.

Among her responsibilities at the SELPA, Redcoff is responsible for Alternate Dispute Resolution process for mediating and resolving disputes between parents and districts.

From 1996 through 1999, Redcoff worked in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District as a full inclusion specialist and a behavioral specialist.

Redcoff, her husband, Michael Lacy, her sons, Aidan, a 2013 SVHS graduate and current Cal Poly student, and, Cian, an SVHS sophomore, will be formally welcomed to the district at the June 10 board meeting.
