Summer by the book

Posted on June 6, 2014 by Sonoma Valley Sun

“Fizz, Boom, Read,”’ Sonoma Valley Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program for preschoolers, grade-schoolers and teens, begins Tuesday, June 10. During the eight-week program, kids will receive incentive prizes to encourage them to keep reading during the summer break.

Children between the ages of six and 11 track their reading progress on log sheets and return to the library to receive weekly prizes. (Family and friends may read to children who aren’t reading, yet.) Teens earn points by reading books, attending programs and completing library-related activities. Participating teens will be entered into a raffle to win a Kindle.

Registration is free and ongoing through the duration of the program.

“It’s going to be a great summer here at the library,” said Children’s Librarian Clare O’Brien. “There’s a lot of fun to be had, so don’t miss out!”

The Summer Reading Program is made possible with financial support from the Sonoma County Library Foundation and the Sonoma Valley Friends of the Library. All programs are free and open to the public. Keep up on events by liking the library on FaceBook: Facebook.com/sonomavalleylibrary.

Storytimes for children through age three will be held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and for children ages three to six at 11:30 a.m.
