Built in 1851, Lachryma Montis was the estate of General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, Military Commander and director of colonization of the northern frontier of California. Now a state park, the Vallejo Home needs volunteer docents to share its history with visitors.

California State Parks is looking for enthusiastic people who are proud of their town’s heritage. Docents are trained volunteers who interpret the Vallejo Home’s architecture, exhibits and history to park visitors. They lead public tours on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Free training is offered by California State Parks in cooperation with Sonoma/Petaluma State Historic Parks Association. Training runs two full days: Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29, 2014. After training, a commitment of three hours is required.

To sign up for the training and become a volunteer docent, please contact Park Interpretive Specialist Philip Herrschaft at 938-1519 or [email protected].
