Sonoma Valley Hospital has been recognized for its environmentally-friendly practices by the national organization Practice Greenhealth. Celebrating the 2014 “Greenhealth Partner for Change” Award are members of the hospital’s Green Team: James Kohler; Karen Clark; Laura Gallmeyer; Nancy Large; Kimberly Drummond; and Allan Sendaydiego.

To be eligible for the award, facilities must recycle at least 15 percent of their total waste, and demonstrate that they have reduced regulated medical waste and developed successful pollution prevention programs. Among its achievements, SVH has increased recycling efforts in the past year to achieve a
31 percent reduction in waste, and made significant efforts to eliminate mercury and other chemicals from the facility.

“Sound environmental practices, like those recognized here, are an important part of our efforts to improve the health of our patients, staff and community,” said CEO Kelly Mather.
