Taking the oath as Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program, are Travis Claeys, Reed Hammett, Spencer McNairy and Kaehlan Walsh. All four are members of Boy Scout Troop 16 of the Redwood Empire Council, Boy Scouts of America led by Scoutmaster Bill Hammett.

Fewer than five percent of Boy Scouts nationwide attain this illustrious rank, which requires earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating ideals of service and leadership, including organizing and leading an extensive service project. During their scouting careers, these boys have had the opportunity to challenge themselves with outdoor experiences that included troop camping, cave rappelling, snow camping, backpacking, and travel to National Jamborees.

Achieving the rank also means that these Scouts are experienced leaders both within their troop and in the community. Each scout completed an Eagle Service project that benefited a variety of local organizations, including the Sonoma Ecology Center, General Vallejo’s Home and Historic Park, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and The Marin School.
