Police blotter: Girls gone drunk; the well-mannered DUI; office burglary

Without all the alcohol, it might simply have been two young, independent and sassy women enjoying a night on the town. Add booze, however, and you get two stumbling, shrieking drunks fighting each other in the street — plus a bust for resisting arrest. The scene unfolded at about 11 p.m. on July 15 when cops received a call about two women rolling around on West Spain Street at Second. When officers arrived, the women were merely stumbling down the street. One, 28, from Sonoma, was reticent compared to her bombastic gal-pal from Oakland, also 28, who told cops the alleged fight was “none of their f***ing business.” When her insulting rhetoric grew more heated, officers made a move to arrest her for public intoxication. A scuffle ensued, and the woman was forcibly handcuffed and placed in the squad car. Once inside, she began kicking wildly. After being removed and placed in maximum restraints, she was taken to jail with an additional charge of resisting arrest. The Sonoma woman was not cited.

Vacation getaway

A Sonoma man, back in town after a trip to Alaska, discovered that seven unauthorized purchases had been made July 17, all in Jamaica. The total scam haul was $680.55.

Bad driving, good manners

The woman pulled over for erratic driving – her silver Mazda riding the West Napa Street curb for 30 yards, just missing a fire hydrant – was asked by the officer how she was doing. “Fine,” came the reply, “and how are you?” The 22-year-old’s manners proved far superior to her motor skills at about 11 p.m. on July 17. In slurred voice she admitted to “one glass of wine at the Swiss.” When it was time for the breath test, the Rohnert Park woman told the officer, “here’s the thing, I refuse.” She opted for a blood test and was jailed for DUI.

Business break-in

An overnight burglary of a business in the 21000 block of Broadway was discovered early in the morning on July 17. The broken front door of the clinic was clearly visible when officers arrived. The owner said the files had been rifled, and 10 to 15 were missing (one was found in the parking lot). Also gone: checks, supplies and $600 in cash. No trace of fingerprints. The door damage was estimated at $300.
