SVDOG elects new officers

At its annual board of director’s meeting on July 16, Sonoma Valley Dog Owners & Guardians (SVDOG) welcomed new board member Shelley Richey and elected its officers for the coming year. Founded in 2007, SVDOG is a 501c3 educational organization dedicated to promoting the welfare of dogs and their contribution to the quality of life in Sonoma Valley.

Elected to office were: Rich Lee, a co-founder of SVDOG, who took the reins as president. A past president of the Rotary Club of Sonoma Valley, Lee is co-owner and practice manager of Arroyo Veterinary Hospital where he has played a critical role in improving the lives, health and well being of thousands of dogs in the Valley.

Ellen Brantley is the new vice president. A former high-technology expert, Brantley is a CCPDT-Certified Dog Trainer with years of training and extensive experience in canine behavior modification. She is also a docent at Bouverie Preserve”

Sandy Donohue is now the organization’s secretary. She is also president of the Sonoma Dog Park Association, Inc., nonprofit whose volunteers have for years lovingly maintained Sonoma’s only dog park, adjacent to the Police Station.

Shelley Richey will serve as treasurer. She is a Customer Account Representative with Softflex Company and also CFO and member of the board of the Sonoma Dog Park Association. In her spare time, she serves as director and singer with Vox Populi and as a lighting technician and backstage crewmember on numerous area theater productions.

SVDOG’s other board members include: co-founder and past-president, Bob Edwards, a Sonoma attorney and mediator; Judi Friedman, a paralegal specialist in promotions, food law and trademarks; Sonoma trial attorney and mediator, Julie Maneker Emmett; Rhonda Stallings, DVM, co-founder of SVDOG and co-owner of Arroyo Veterinary Hospital; and co-founder Joan Tillman, retired director of Human Resources for Northrup Grumman, Sunnyvale.

SVDOG’s board joins and supports countless responsible dog-lovers who nurture, protect, aid and abet the many dogs who make Sonoma Valley a better place to live.

The next meeting, open to the public, is Thursday, August 7, 7 p.m. at the Sonoma Community Center.
