Super Bowl wine, Stompers store, Mickey's measles and more

The 49ers may or may not be going to the 50th Super Bowl in Santa Clara next year, but Sonoma County wine producers sure will be. The group will be the “official suppliers” for SB L (actually, the league is ditching the Roman numeral thing because the L looks like a typo), with a wine lounge, wine-pouring and tourism events to show off the region. So cheer for the home red and gold (as in cab and chardonnay).

Sonoma Community Center, the city’s de facto rec hall, will provide 20 free uses this year for Valley nonprofits and community groups. As in, free rent for your fundraiser. A sweet deal for you C3’s. For more information contact Sonoma Community Center Booking Manager Michael Acker at 707.938.4626 x2.

Federal tax forms will be scarce and tax booklets nonexistent at the library this IRS season. The IRS is cutting down on printed paper, to save money while being more eco-friendly. Then again, this being a federal agency, it probably uses up the saved paper to print ‘how to recycle’ guides… State tax forms, meanwhile, will be plentiful. The IRS gets the rap for wringing out the last penny from taxpayers, but it’s the state that really goes for the jugular on late and back taxes. A registered letter from Sacramento? Take two aspirin and call your accountant.

The long-empty office space at 234 W. Napa, next to Eric Gullotta’s office, is the new off-field home of the Sonoma Stompers. The landlord: Gullotta, who owns the building and the team. Its front office will be in the back, with a retail fan shop – hats and jerseys, memorabilia, etc — up front. It opens, grandly, on Saturday, February 7, at 10 a.m. with individual and group tickets sales, and drawings to win Stomperas gear and merch.

There have been no reported cases of measles in Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Lake, and Mendocino counties, but a trio of cases from Alameda, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties constitute an outbreak, said Sonoma County Deputy Health Officer Karen Holbrook. The way residents and commuters travel throughout the Bay Area, it’s one big community, and spread of the disease is “absolutely of concern.” Of the California cases, 48 are linked to a visit to Disneyland. If you go, and simply must bring back souvenirs, everybody will be just fine (for once) with that crappy t-shirt.

Gambling problem, or is the food really good? A Santa Rosa man, 24, left the Graton Casino early Tuesday morning in stolen car… then returned a few hours later, parked the hot rig in another space, and went back inside. The CHP was taking the stolen car report from the rightful owner when the thief exited the casino and headed back to where he had left the car. When he saw the officers at work, he ran towards the gaming establishment, but was arrested before making it back in. Jail? He’s all in.
