Worth the Drive: Pliny the Half Pint

pliny dessert

For a limited time only, you can get quite possibly one of the most brilliant booze-laden desserts ever created: Pliny the Half Pint.

Co-created by Russian River Brewing Company and Santa Rosa based Sift Dessert Bar, the dessert comprises five pieces of brown sugar cake soaked in Pliny the Elder beer layered between Pliny flavored mousse and a spiced orange glaze.

While I haven’t gotten my grubby hands on one yet, Liquid Bread describes the taste as:

“The first taste is the frothy lightness of the foam that carries just a kiss of orangy bitterness. The cake is dense but moist and every bite bleeds out beery goodness caramelized with brown sugar. The sweetness is cut nicely by the mousse and also by a strong hoppy blast that lingers on your tongue.”

Russian River Brewing Company, who makes the famed, high demand beer, recommends pairing it with Pliny – sip between nibbles, of course.

The dessert is available now until June 20 and is expected to possibly sell out prior to that date. The demand is so high you can only buy two per person.

You can pick it up at two Sift locations:

  • Santa Rosa: 404-A Mendocino Ave, 707-703-4228
  • San Francisco: 2411 California St, 415-580-3030

The Sun office is located across the street from the high school. Bonus points to anyone who brings me one. 😉
