Heads up: traffic advisory for raceway this weekend

Posted on August 25, 2015 by Sonoma Valley Sun

GoPro GP CarsThe finale for the Verizon IndyCar series is this weekend at Sonoma Raceway. Thousands of racing fans will flock to wine country for the spectacle.

Unless you’re going to the track for any of the three days of events, we suggest you avoid the area.

Here is low down:

Friday and Saturday are practice and qualification days, things should be fine, just a little extra busy.

Sunday is race day – between 9 AM-2PM and 5PM-8PM you should avoid the track.

Up to 85% of the drivers who pass by the track on race day aren’t even going to the race and lead to epic traffic drama and accidents.

And of course, there will be cops around the track to monitor traffic.

So, take an alternative route – if you need to go to San Francisco, go through Napa or Petaluma. www.racesonoma.com/indycar

  1. This is a rude way of telling Sonoma residents and guests of residents not to drive by Sonoma raceway this weekend.
When did Hwy 37 and 121 become exclusive to “race fans only”?
