Jarvis Tax Association: No on AA

Posted on May 18, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Environmental protection for the Bay is important but this tax is grossly unfair.

The Bay is a resource that should be protected by the state, not just by property owners in the region. If Bay protection is so important, why doesn’t the State of California spend some of its multi-billion dollar surplus?

The proposed $12 annual parcel tax is unfair and inequitable. It is a serious incremental burden for those seniors and others who are already strapped to meet the dramatically growing cost of living in this region – the highest in the nation. Google, Apple, or other big corporations will pay exactly the same as the elderly widow struggling to stay in her small inland cottage, but they will reap huge hikes in property value.

Your tax money would to the the ambiguous Oakland-based San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority, established in 2008. This agency is governed by officials appointed by local governments, and often lack press oversight and public accountability.

This parcel tax is imposed on homeowners who live miles away from the Bay. How will this benefit them?

Look at your last property tax bill and see how many other bonds and assessments you are already paying. Can you really afford another one with questionable benefits to you? Vote NO on Measure AA. Vote with your wallet in mind rather than your heart.

President, Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association

  1. One of the Echo Freaks went on the so called non profit radio station . ( well it does have a signal on the air , but a hell of a lot of vapid crud ) Gas bagging about how wonderful this would be . I grew up around and on The SF Bay .Think it’s a great resource . But as you say , another pork barrel . how much of this money will go to pay numerous “directors” . And fund meetings . I vote NO .
