Letter: Supports overnight parking for homeless

Posted on July 1, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Thank you Sonoma Valley Sun for being a voice of reason and compassion regarding this stupid and ridiculous non-decision on the part of our City Council. Sonoma Overnight Support is doing so much on so little and addressing an issue so many people pretend does not exist. They are often the non-profit in town that get the least amount of attention and support.

The day after the City Council made this decision I made the decision that our family will commit to a monthly cash donation to this organization. I encourage others to do the same. Imagine if some of us even just gave $20 a month. If 100 people gave $20 a month that would be $2000 a month added to their budget. Imagine if we gave more. I have my donation to them in my monthly bills and expenditures. Those who can, should. Any one of us could need their services at some point in our lives. None of us are exempt from life’s circumstances. Even if we never need them, we should be caring enough human beings to care for those who do.

  1. As amazing as this sounds. I was homeless due to a wrongful decision and in doing so I was shown a part of our society that is sometimes as corrupt as the government which created this.
I believe in empowerment and not entitlement. I have shared the streets of Sonoma County with more of the Second than of the First.
From what ivgavevwitnesses, being homeless is often more of a decision than a choice and those making that decision are far from being as bad as you think.
I know many people who Work and take home over a Thousand a Week or more but spend it on Substance while getting support from the State.
Just as easily said I have met more panhandler that were anything but, many parked their cars around the corner and would change their clothes and go home, often making more than 500 a day and laughing at the people handing them Cash that they didn’t have to claim.
Our state has seen a rise in so called homelessness in Veterans and Americans who have been displaced or boosted from waiting lists for the PLIGHT of the Illegals who come for work but end up marrying and raising a family without ever becoming a citizen, still being given what is not earned.
    Good luck
In your endeavors but I made it out of the deepest of holes financially and see no reason why anyone else can not

  2. I dare you to meet up and talk face to face. I will tell you my story and the story of those like me. I will have you the same chance to tell me your rhetoric
