About the canceled Cohn Music Festival

Posted on September 2, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

It’s a pity that Sonoma can not set up an outdoor entertainment venue for all ticket holders to enjoy the event. Last year the venue was a nightmare for standard ticket holders who actually wanted to see the performances in person and not on side screens. The food and wine booths were also difficult to navigate. Sorry it’s cancelled.

  1. Years ago when this event was at the winery, we attended. The music was great, but the rest of it was not. Maybe for VIPs it was. No chairs allowed, and no place to sit for regular ticket holders. Staff even dumped water and created mud on the only place we found to sit. I could not figure out why they could not dump it in the paved area, where it would run down hill and away from people. When I asked, they told me we were not allowed to sit where we were and to just move. So, we never attended another concert. From this letter it sounds like the organizers have not figured out how to make it work for non-VIPs in the new location either. We have been going to Healdsburg Jazz and concerts at Rodney Strong for several years, and everyone, even in the “low” priced seats has a great experience. Maybe the organizers could learn from them and bring the concerts back next year.

  2. The “ordinary” tickets were selling fairly well . The seats at $200 & $350 were the laggards . The Winery shows did have some inconveniences .Footing was touchy , restrooms as always , worse for the girls than the boys . People putting down blankets and then not being there ( Space Hogs ) . The new venue ,at least had mostly reserved seats . Large concerts are always not real easy on the attendees . I’m afraid this one may be done . It takes a lot of effort and money to put on . When looking to sell tickets at 1 , 2 , 300 Dollars , people may not return . Headliners don’t take these gigs if the summer markets have other good opportunities . Some of the performers at these shows would do it for other reasons besides just the money . Hats off to the organizers for trying , but if you can’t sell it ?
