Measure V is common sense

Posted on October 31, 2016 by Sonoma Valley Sun

I am supporting Measure V, as I believe it is a common sense compromise on the issue of leaf blowers. Years ago, I asked my gardener to quit using the leaf blower in my garden. I noticed that after my gardener left my property, there was a thin layer of dust and dirt on my plants, on the exterior of my home and in my home. Since we quit using the blower, the results have been overwhelmingly positive. My garden looks better, my house is cleaner (in fact MUCH cleaner), and both my neighbors and myself benefit from my small contribution to a quieter, cleaner environment. My gardener benefits as well. He is not subjected to the loud noise, gas emissions, dust and dirt created by the gas blowers. I do pay him for his extra time, which is well worth it. On rare occasions, I allow him to use the electric blower to do spot maintenance. An extra half hour or so to rake or use a broom is a small price to pay for a better result for everyone.

I hope everyone will vote Yes on Measure V as sensible approach to the use of leaf blowers. A win-win for our community.

  1. With all the turmoil and real problems in this country/state/county/city, I am shocked and disappointed that this leaf blower issue is still being dealt with and discussed. Everyone that employs a gardener, please pay him extra to leave that thing in his truck and do whatever they need to do to not blow all that STUFF(whatever it consists of), around the neighborhood. I’ve watched some of them blow the stuff into the next yard, load up and leave.
Wow. That’s the price of living in God’s Country, people. Let’s step up to the plate, pay your gardener more, (it’s only money. What ya gonna do, die with all of it?) Let’s get it off the plate of local problems and move on to something really important. Ya know what? There’s hungry people right here locally. Let’s help em out. Thank you for your time. Praise the Lord.
