Transcendence Theatre Company opens its Broadway Under the Stars season on Friday, June 16 with “Another Openin’ Another Show.” The program of live music and dance runs Fridays-Sundays through July 2 at Jack London State Historic Park

The show will have special significance, says Stephan Stubbins, because the song choices follow the 10-year history of building the theatre company. The journey began in Baja, Mexico, and included a cross-country road trip to find just the right venue to call home. The Glen Ellen location was a perfect fit; the upcoming season will be the sixth at Jack London Park.

“We will be exploring the challenges and triumphs of the creative journey,” Stubbins said. “Featuring songs from ‘The Phantom Of The Opera,’ ‘Jersey Boys,’ ‘The Sound Of Music,’ ‘Meet Me In St. Louis,’ and many more, including surprises, we guarantee you will leave this show feeling uplifted and energized.”

More than a standard musical revue, each show weaves well-known Broadway and popular songs into a themed performance in the park’s open-air, 150-year-old Winery Ruins.

Each cast features professional performers from New York and Los Angeles — artists who often come to the Sonoma stage directly from recent Broadway appearances.

“It’s hard to imagine summer in Sonoma without Broadway Under the Stars,” Amy Miller, the company’s artistic director. “We are humbled and proud to be an integral part of the community.”

The season also offers “Fantastical Family Night,” July 14-15; “Fascinating Rhythm,” August 4-20; and the Gala Celebration, September 8-10.

All events begin at 5 p.m. with picnicking in the park’s historic Beauty Ranch meadow, with food truck fare and local wineries pouring. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Single tickets $60-$144. Transcendencetheatre.org.
