May Boeve, the executive director of 350.org, the international climate change organization, returns to her hometown of Sonoma for a February 13 presentation.

Boeve will speak about the state of the climate under the Trump administration and how the politics of fear, greed, and lies extend beyond his impact on any particular issue.

The coauthor of “Fight Global Warming Now,” Boeve is an award-winning environmental activist. She attended Sassarini Elementary School and St. Francis, then graduated from Justin Siena (2002), before pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science at Middlebury College in Vermont. There, along with five other students and author Bill McKibben founded the influential 350.org.

Boeve cofounded and helped lead the Step It Up Campaign in 2007, an initiative to get the U.S. Congress moving to address global warming. Prior to that she was active in the campus climate movements while a student at both Justin Sienna and Middlebury College. She was also the recipient of a Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership in 2006, and late last year received a New Frontier award from the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston for her environmental activism and leadership.

The free talk is presented by the Earth Care Committee of First Congregational Church and will be moderated by John Donnelley. 7 p.m. Burlingame Hall, 252 W. Spain St.
