Hosted by the Praxis Peace Institute, “Changing the System: California’s Strategic Role in National Systemic Change” welcomes political economist and historian Gal Alperovitz, author of “Ten Ways to Democratize the Economy” and “ American Beyond Capitalism.” The event is Monday, October 22.
Joining the discussion is Ellen Brown, an expert on public banking systems worldwide. Together the two explore modern economic systems and offer examples of better models.
Alperovitz is a political economist and historian. A co-founder of the Democracy Collaborative and is a former fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University, he has taught at Harvard’s Institute of Politics and is professor emeritus at the University of Maryland.
His research includes community-based, political and economic development, ecological sustainability, and long-term peace initiatives. Alperovitz was also part of a group of co-conspirators that helped Daniel Ellsberg distribute the Pentagon Papers to the press.
