Posted on October 10, 2018 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Hosted by the Praxis Peace Institute, “Changing the System: California’s Strategic Role in National Systemic Change” welcomes political economist and historian Gal Alperovitz, author of “Ten Ways to Democratize the Economy” and “ American Beyond Capitalism.” The event is Monday, October 22.

Joining the discussion is Ellen Brown,  an expert on public banking systems worldwide. Together the two explore modern economic systems and offer examples of better models.

Ellen Brown is an internationally-acclaimed Public Banking expert and author. She has been a speaker at two previous Praxis Peace Institute conferences and it was at the 2009 conference in Sonoma — over lunch at the Sunflower Cafe — that the Public Banking Institute was created by Brown and Marc Armstrong.
In her best-selling book, “Web of Debt,” she turned those skills to an analysis of the Federal Reserve and “the money trust,” showing how this private cartel has usurped the power to create money from the people and how we can get it back. In “The Public Bank Solution,” she writes about contemporary public banking systems globally. She has been invited to present at numerous conferences in the U.S. and abroad and has appeared on many TV and radios shows. In 2014, she ran for State Treasurer on the Green Party ticket, earning 6.5% of the vote.
