A crew working on the upper portion of the Sonoma Overlook Trail takes a breather before finishing phase one of a Rehabilitation and Rerouting Project. After extensive repairs to erosion damage, the upper segment re-opens to the public on Saturday, October 20.

The trail, known as The Upper Meadow Loop, is accessible from the Toyon Trail entrance in the Mountain Cemetery and through the Montini Open Space Preserve. The trail’s lower portion will remain closed through the winter. The ambitious project was a community effort. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the Sonoma Overlook Trail Steward volunteers and the over $200,000 in donations by local businesses, service organizations and supporters” said Colleen Ferguson, Sonoma public works director.

The Overlook Trail Stewards will lead a free community hike Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. Meet at the Overlook Trailhead Parking lot.
