Baseball tryouts postponed

Posted on February 26, 2014 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs’ open tryout in Sonoma — originally scheduled for March 1 — has been postponed to Saturday, March 15, due to a heavy forecast of rain expected in the Bay Area.

The March 15 tryout begins at 8 a.m. at Peterson Field, located at 175 First Street West, in Sonoma. Sonoma Stompers manager Casey Dill, and San Rafael Pacifics manager Dan DiPace, will conduct the tryout. Representatives from the other Pacific Association teams will be in attendance.

Pre-registration cost is $100 and day-of is $150. All players are welcome, however it is recommended that those players wishing to tryout have exhausted amateur eligibility and have previous pro or college experience. Registrations for the original March 1 date will be honored.

To register, or to find out more, please contact Tristan Barbieri in the Pacifics front office at 415.485.1563. Pre-registration will end on Friday, March 14, at 4 p.m.

Owned and operated by Redwood Sports and Entertainment, LLC, the Sonoma Stompers will compete in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. The 2014 schedule has not yet been released, but the team will play between June and August.

The Sonoma Stompers will play their home games at Arnold Field in downtown Sonoma, and will compete with the 2012 Pacific Association champions, the San Rafael Pacifics. The BayCal Lumberjacks, Vallejo Admirals, Na Koa Ikaika of Maui and the Hawaii Stars round out the non-affiliated six-team league.

The caliber of play will be consistent with Class A and Class AA of affiliated minor-league baseball.
