Big 3 closing; Santé takes over
The iconic Big 3 diner in Boyes Hot Springs will close April 24.
Management at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa are relocating breakfast and lunch service to Santé, the award-winning high-end restaurant inside the resort.
Additionally, the Water Tower Bar, located poolside at the resort, will also serve lunch, weather dependent.
Regulars, don’t fret – while the old building is closing, Good Neighbor discounts will continue to be honored. Now you’ll get to enjoy your cup of coffee inside the beautiful Santé dining room, patio or poolside.
What is to come of the Big 3 building? Anyone who has visited the Big 3 in recent years has most likely noticed that the building has seen better days. The historic diner experienced many changes over the years and the current restaurant has struggled with quality service and building upkeep.
According to employees on Facebook, the Big 3 building will be demolished to make way for a new convention center, replacing the tent that the Fairmont is using for convention and meetings.
Santé will serve breakfast starting 7 a.m.-11 a.m., lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is located inside the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, 100 Boyes Blvd., Sonoma – 938-9000 – fairmont.com

This place will be missed. 30 years ago when I moved here, I remember it as still the original soda fountain, long counter down the center of the main room. It was a throwback to an early era in Sonoma history.
I can remember when the Big 3 was a super market and a place to dine.. gone forever are those days but the memory lingers..was really nice!
How about the Fairmont rent the building to a someone wanting a space for a restaurant. It would be an alternative for guests who don’t want to eat at Sante. It could be a nice asset for the hotel and the Springs.
I first dined at the Big Three in 1979 & again in 2009. Food was superb always & the the coffee on 2009 was my dream cup & I have searched for that blend and full smooth taste ever since.
