Disaster resiliency and trauma recovery
The free community workshop “After the Widfires: Emerging Stronger Together” will be held Thursday, November 9, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Altimira Middle School.
The evening will provide hands-on skills to help you and your family alleviate the stress from the trauma of the recent fires. The featured speaker will be Dr. Robert Macy, President of the International Trauma Center.
Topics include:
- Learn how to protect your sleep and increase social connections, which are some of the most powerful antidotes to psychological trauma.
- Learn how to support and increase your resiliency during and after natural disasters
- Learn how to regain and protect your sleep and increase your social connections, which are some of the most powerful antidotes to psychological trauma
- Learn how to practice concrete life skills to reduce anxiety, depression and hostility from disaster response and recovery experts
Dr. Macy is a founding member of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), where he is a primary content provider for the development of Psychological First Aid, (PFA) and Skills for Psychological Recovery (SPR), and was instrumental in the design and development of NCTSN network products during its first 8 years. He has co-chaired the NCTSN Terrorism and Disaster Network Committee and led numerous response and behavioral health recovery teams during national and international disasters.
