About all those cops along Hwy 12 Friday morning

After a ‘Shelter in Place’ alert to the area of the 16700 block of Hwy 12 in Agua Caliente, a Santa Rosa man was was found burglarizing a relative’s home Friday morning.

Kurt Rodda, 30, was arrested after a 90-minute stand-off in which Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the home on August 2.

A reported suspicious activity at about 7 a.m. He told dispatchers that his neighbor reported to him that a white Saturn minivan was in his driveway and a man entered his home whom he’d never seen before.

The neighbor confronted the man and asked him what he was doing there. The man responded with  “nonsensical statements asking about the occupants of the home and appeared to be under the influence of drugs,” according to the Sheriff’s Office report.

The caller told dispatchers that nobody fitting that description should be inside his home and had no idea who it could be.

Deputies responded to the home in the 16700 block of Hwy 12, near the Pool Mart, and tried to make contact with the man, who refused to come to the door and would “peek out at the deputies through curtains at times.”

Sheriff’s deputies surrounded the home and tried to call him out with loudspeakers. During the stand-off, the resident observed the man on a camera system in his home and recognized him as his estranged cousin, Kurt Rodda, 30, of Santa Rosa. According to the resident Rodda had a drug problem and had no business being inside his home.

At about 8:45 a.m. Rodda responded to Sheriff’s negotiators, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident. The van that was covered by a tarp that Rodda arrived in was determined to be stolen out of Santa Rosa. The Sheriff’s SWAT team was activated but the incident was resolved before their arrival.

Ultimately Rodda was booked on vehicle theft, burglary and resisting arrest charges. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and is being held on $50,000 bail.
