Costumed driver booked for Halloween night hit-and-run

The alleged hit and run driver that sent two young girls to the hospital Halloween night is out of county jail after posting $20,000 bail.

Agustin Mendoza, 19, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north on Riverside Drive at Cherry Avenue around 7 p.m. when it struck a parked car, according to CHP Officer Marc Renspurger.

The impact of the crash pushed the parked car into two girls, ages 10 and 16, who were likely trick-or-treating at the time.

The 10-year-old girl suffered major injuries and the 16-year-old girl suffered minor injuries, the CHP said. Both were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Mendoza, reportedly in a baseball player costume, initially remained at the scene. He then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, the CHP reports.

The force of the crash pushed the parked car into two girls, ages 10 and 16, of Boyes Hot Springs. A CHP officer found Mendoza who fled on foot and he was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, Renspurger said.

Mendoza suffered minor injuries and he was taken to Sonoma Valley Hospital, then to jail.
