An ‘Undaunted’ Jackie Speier comes to Sonoma

Posted on November 6, 2019 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Congresswoman Jackie Speier has much to say, about women’s equality, LGBTQ rights, eliminating government waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption, strengthening America’s national & economic security, supporting eterans and military families, and impeaching President Trump.

A survivor of the Jonestown massacre in 1978, Speier is the author of Undaunted: Surviving Jonestown, Summoning Courage & Fighting Back. She comes to Sonoma as part of the Sonoma Speaker Series, in conversation with journalist David Bolling, on November 22.

The impeachment effort is a hot topic. “Playing nice, being fair and cautious has only put our country at greater risk. We must move forward with an impeachment inquiry. If we fail to undertake our sworn duty to protect the Constitution and this country, and to show that law and order still govern our nation, we risk far more than the 2020 elections.”

Speier has represented San Francisco and San Mateo Counties since she was first elected in April 2008. She serves on several committees in the House of Representatives, and is Co-Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, and the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Before her election to the US House of Representatives, she served for 18 years in the California State Legislature.
