A Turkey Trot is an entertaining running event for runners of different levels. For some, a Turkey Trot may be their first attempt in joining a running event, while for others the run may be considered as a family tradition. If you are a first timer, here are some tips that will greatly help you in enjoying your first Turkey Trot event.

Begin with your own pace

For beginners, running in an event may prove to be overwhelming, especially with the added pressure of running alongside others who are definitely much faster than you. But the key thing in running in an event such as the Turkey Trot, is to begin at a comfortable pace. Several beginner running tips warn runners that deciding to take a sprint in the first few kilometers of the race may lead to an unpleasant running experience. This is because your lungs and legs may eventually burn out, causing you to slow down. Thus, it is better to begin at a comfortable pace early on, and increasing your pace as long as you deem necessary towards the end of the race.

Dress appropriately

Running a Turkey Trot may entail the need for you to dress up in fun costumes such as Turkey costume made of fleece. However, it is still best to consider your comfort while running, even if you are in a costume. You may want to clothe yourself with a running top with long sleeves, or even use a jacket to keep you warm. But remember not to dress too warm because your body temperature will rise up as soon as you exert effort in running.

Avoid lining up in front

While the excitement of the event may get to you, you may want to avoid lining up in front, especially as a novice runner. Faster runners often find themselves having to dodge slower runners in front of them. In parallel, slower runners tend to feel pressured and overwhelmed by the faster runners overtaking them. Thus, it is best to line up according to your abilities. Every runner will have a more pleasant experience if they are seeded appropriately in the lineup.

In joining a Turkey Trot race, you need to follow a standard registration process. More often than not, this simply entails the need for you to fill up an online form and pay with a debit or credit card. The race fees usually vary according to several factors such as the number of participants. Nevertheless, race fees tend to be cheaper if you register earlier.

Just like any other running events, joining the Turkey Trot entails the need for the right preparation, to ensure that you will be able to conquer the race. Nevertheless, running in a Turkey Trot event proves to be enjoyable because this is considered as a great way to be one with a community of runners. Thereby, keep in mind that the most important thing to take note of is that this race is meant to be enjoyed.
