Five ways to enhance and improve your greenhouse

Posted on December 29, 2019 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Having a greenhouse in your backyard allows you to have different seasonal fruits and vegetables year-round. You can also grow herbs, and colorful flowers. If you are into growing different plants and have the budget to get a greenhouse running efficiently, then you can use these tips to enhance the performance of your greenhouse

Insulation

The right insulation is one of the many ways to increase the efficiency of your greenhouse. There are different ways to improve insulation. If you have the right budget, you can go all out and get insulated walls for your greenhouse. If you are on a tighter budget, an option is clear tarps,  which allow proper sunlight for the growth of your plants and their photosynthesis process.

Upgrade lighting

If you live somewhere where sunlight is not readily available or if winter is approaching, you need to have the right amount of light for your plants to thrive. Make sure that the light you get gives off heat at the right consistency without being wasteful and having to be replaced often. To get the best results for your plants and seedlings, use fluorescent lighting that gives off a slightly bluish light.

Check the controls often

To get greater results, keep an eye on the different factors such as lighting, heat, and fans. You can have an easier time keeping track of all of these factors with adjustable controls. You also need to monitor the controls to make sure they are set correctly.

Keep fans clean

Keeping the fans clean in your greenhouse will improve the environment, and ensure that the air inside the greenhouse does not get stagnant. Having clean fans is also going to make staying in your greenhouse more comfortable for you, and disperse the plant’s carbon dioxide.

Add thermal screens

When winter approaches, maintaining the heat in your greenhouse is doubly important so that your plants do not suffer from the cold weather. Installing at least one thermal screen will improve the levels of heat in your greenhouse, particularly if your greenhouse lacks insulation installed.

Following these five tips will help your plants grow and thrive. Even if you do not have a large sum of money to invest in the project, you can still improve your greenhouse on a budget.
