A record-breaking month of feeding the homeless

Posted on April 6, 2021 by Sonoma Valley Sun
An update from Kathy King of Sonoma Overnight Support
I want to heed the words of Oprah Winfrey — “The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.” — by sharing with you what we at SOS are celebrating now.
I want to praise the generosity of:
Equally as important is that next week SOS will be able to move two more of our car clients into Los Guilicos Village, once some minor repairs have been made to the huts. This brings our Los Guilicos total to 12 Sonoma residents, and we still have three people on the waitlist. As more huts become available, we will be able to move them in, too.
We had a record-breaking month in March, providing 5,306 meals to 237 people. This is the highest number of meals we have ever served in a month to the unhoused and food-deprived and their families.
We are celebrating because we had the ability to feed them hot, nutritious meals, thanks to the generosity of community groups and individual donors like you.
So that we can continue to meet this overwhelming need, I’m asking you to mark your calendar for Saturday, May 8, when SOS will hold a drive-thru fundraiser at the Sonoma Springs Community Hall. A five-course dinner to-go will be prepared by our in-house chefs, Dan Kahn and Dawn McIntosh, assisted by our volunteers.
And finally, I want to wish you all a very Happy Easter and Happy Passover. I hope that you get to celebrate with family and friends – socially distanced, of course, or if you’ve had your vaccine shots, even closer!
Gratefully,
Kathy King

  1. Kathy, your leadership and loving heart, are a blessing to so many. Know that many in the community celebrate you, the board and SOS for the compassion and care given to those on need. Keep thriving.
