How to Attract More Customers to Your Retail Business

Posted on October 5, 2021 by Allen Brown

Attracting customers is a skill that takes time and effort. It can be especially challenging for retail businesses, especially with all the competition you have to face. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, though, no matter how new your business is. Whether you sell clothes, skincare products, or perfume, here is how to attract more customers.

Think About the Décor

For retail stores, you want to attract people to your door, which means using inviting décor. Color is everything, so choose bright, attractive colors that represent what your store is about. If you’re a professional tech company, for example, you might want to use a mix of blues and greys. For kid’s clothes stores, primary colors work well.

Upkeep is just as important as the initial décor efforts, so install some wall corner guards to protect your interior walls. Remember – the way your store looks represents the brand as a whole. You don’t want damaged walls to be the cause of why people are turning away.

Build a Great Website

A great website tells consumers that you are a reliable and quality retail business, which in turn inspires them to buy from you. Consider the layout, the navigation, and the overall design – you want it to be easy to use and to show off the best of what you sell. Make sure the website is also mobile-friendly, as it is how many users find brands.

Be Active on Social Media

Social media is a tool that should be used by all businesses – including retail. It helps you connect with your customers, allowing you to keep in touch long after the transaction has finished. Plus, it helps establish a strong brand identity

To make social media work for your retail business, post store updates regularly and reach out to other businesses for networking purposes. You should also reply to the comments underneath your posts – the stronger the connection you have with your customers, the more likely they’ll come back to your store.

Train Excellent Staff

Your staff represents your retail store, which is why it’s crucial to hire great people and also train them up to the max. Even if a candidate doesn’t have retail experience, if they are naturally friendly enough, with enough training, they could make an excellent employee. There are plenty of training options out there for retail staff, from leadership to customer service courses.

Go Green

Many consumers now focus their attention on ethical brands. By using greener practices, then, not only are you doing your bit for the planet and (in most cases) saving the business money, but you are also helping to bring more customers to the door. To do this, buy from ethical suppliers, limit your energy use, and reduce plastic waste.

Produce Quality Products

Most of all, to attract employees, you must produce quality products. Word of mouth is still one of the most important marketing strategies, and by selling quality, durable products, you ensure your customers don’t just keep coming back for more but that they also recommend you to their friends.
