Handmade for the holidays at SCC Winter Market

Posted on November 19, 2021 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Community Center hosts its 10th Winter Art Market, featuring one-of-a-kind works in ceramics, fiber, jewelry,  print, fine art, and more, from 50 diverse artists. The three-day affair, Dec. 2-4, includes live entertainment, holiday treats for sale, and kids activities.

The fun begins Thursday, December 2 with an outdoor tented reception and shopping from 5:30-7:30 p.m. It continues Friday and Saturday, 11 to 7:30 each day.

“Make holiday shopping fun and meaningful this year by skipping the big box stores to shop local, hand-crafted items while  supporting the Sonoma Community Center,” said Kala Stein, the director of Ceramics. “Meet the artists, enjoy a holiday cookie and  browse the gallery-worthy wares for a unique and community-centric shopping experience.”

Pieces are priced from $5 – $500 and guests can also purchase gift certificates for future classes and experiences at the Center. A portion of all sales will support Arts at the Center programming.

The event features free “Drop Off & Shop” art-centered childcare. Kids will enjoy safe and indoor holiday-themed crafts while the bigger folks get their shopping done. Ages 5+, 1 hour max.

Childcare hours: Saturday 11:00-1:00 p.m. , 2:00-4:00, & 5:00-7:00pm. Space is limited so sign up ahead of time.

Attendees are invited to  tour the vibrant studios and meet the artists, many of whom teach or work at the Center. Visitors can also learn more about the  broad variety of programs and activities offered at the Center, including our culinary classes, community events, happy hours,  services provided by  partners and tenants, and more.

In addition to the Market, attendees will be able to purchase a variety of Holiday cookies, treats, and warm festive beverages  for youth and adults on the Center’s Back Patio Lounge. Proceeds will support the arts programming at the Center.

Shoppers can look forward to ice cream and affogato served by Sonoma’s own Sweet Scoops or some entertainment from local artists  such as a performance by Sonoma Arts Live or ViVO Youth Orchestras

Members are invited to a “Jingle Mingle” with wine and food provided by one of our culinary arts instructors an hour before  the doors open on Thursday. It’s easy to become a member and enjoy all of the perks like early entry, gift bags, social events,  and discounted prices. Winter Art Market tote bags will be gifted to the first 50 customers each day, or to anyone who makes a  donation at checkout. Thank you for supporting our Sonoma Community Center so that we can support our Community. We look  forward to seeing you!
