Harmony in the ‘Kitchen’

Posted on May 9, 2022 by Sonoma Valley Sun

This month’s Kitchen Concert, on Sunday, May 29 at the Sonoma Community Concert promises to be another hot night of musical performances.

Cynthia Tarr, the vibrant chair of the center’s vocal department, will once again showcase three of her talented singers. Carolyn Alioto, Maureen Baker and Ilene Briggin have been long-time members of Cynthia’s Gospel Choir, The Free Spirits, and have performed in her popular recitals held twice a year.

Carolyn can often be seen singing, while driving her famous pink Thunderbird convertible. Her sophisticated set includes an array of her favorite songs including Broadway showtunes and popular songs.

Maureen, once referred to as “The Canary” in her former musical life, will serenade the audience with her unique interpretation of old standards and contemporary songs.

Ilene abandoned her career as a singing, exotic dancer in New York, and relocated to Sonoma where she will perform a more dignified mixture of songs including jazz, blues and a little bit of country.

The concert begins at 6pm in Room 110, 276 E. Napa St., with  wine and cookies available before the show and at intermission. Tickets are $15 dollars at the door, with the proceeds going to the center’s music program.
