Last call for great summer reading!

There’s still time to work in a Summer read or two. Here’s what’s popular right now at Readers’ Books, 130 E. Napa. St. in Sonoma.

Fiction: Hardcover

1. Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

A time traveling story of art, love, loss, and pandemics, that feels both dystopian, relevant and illuminating.

2. Horse by Geraldine Brooks

The story of an enslaved boy in the 1850s who becomes the groomer to a champion racehorse, and an art history graduate student in 2019 who finds a painting of the horse. 

 

3. Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley

A seventeen year old high school dropout, who struggles to care for herself and her brother in East Oakland, becomes a key witness in a scandal involving the local police department.

 

4. The Catch by Alison Fairbrother

Debut novel, a woman in her early 20s who is embarking on a journalism career, must deal with the grief from her beloved poet father’s unexpected death.

 

5. Abiding Conviction by Stephen M. Murphy

Local lawyer-cum-author’s third installment in his legal mystery thriller series, featuring attorney Dutch Francis.

Andy’s third installment in the Amos Parisman mystery series, this time finds the semi-retired detective tracking down a serial killer who is preying on the homeless.

  1. Oh William! by Elizabeth Strout

The character of Lucy Barton, depicted in two previous novels, examines the complex relationship with her first husband, who has remained her on-again, off-again friend throughout the years.

 

  1. Separation Anxiety by Daniel Coshnear

Sonoma County author’s short story collection that illustrates the pervasiveness of the disorder in everyday life.

Quick and quirky short story collection from the Bay Area author.
