Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley has been named Nonprofit of the Year for Senate District 3 by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa. “This club has been a community stalwart for six decades, helping tens of thousands of kids reach their potential through nationally recognized programs,” Sen. Dodd said. The club provides youth development programs for young people ages 6 to 18, more than 1,800 young people annually. “We are humbled and honored to receive this recognition,” said Cary Leigh Snowden, president and CEO. “Our staff and volunteers work so hard for our members each day and they truly deserve this honor.”

“Brown Bag” medication review program. Sonoma Valley Health Care District residents taking multiple medications can make an appointment for a no-cost, confidential one-on-one consultation with a Sonoma Valley Hospital pharmacist. The “Brown Bag” medication reviews take place at 9 am on the first Thursday (at La Luz; 707.938.5131) and the third Thursday (Vintage House; 707.996.0311 ) of every month. The service is  designed to improve medication safety by evaluating all prescribed medications, supplements, over-the-counter meds, all vitamins and supplements, and all herbal medicines. Consultation is free, but appointments strongly recommended. Interpretation services available

Career Online High School, through the Sonoma County Library, allows students to finish high school and receive job training in a flexible online environment. Career certificates cover high-growth professional fields, including childcare and education, food and hospitality, professional home care, manufacturing, office management, customer service, and more. Each Career Online High School student is paired with a professional academic coach to provide ongoing guidance and resources to help them succeed. SVMA sets Gala date – Sonoma Valley Museum of Art celebrates 25 years in the community with its 2023 Gala, “25 Years – The Magic of Art” on Saturday, July 8, at the Hanna Center. This magical evening will include entertainment by illusionist David Gerard, and a fabulous dinner by chef Catherine Venturini of Cuvée Wine Country Events. Svma.org.

The Vintage House myRide program offers free transportation to Sonoma seniors who are no longer driving. Rides are offered to local destinations including shopping, errands, some limited medical appointments, and of course classes and activities at Vintage House. Homeless Action Sonoma is planning a big two-day Flea Market June 3 – 4 at the Sonoma Veterans Building, and lots of volunteer help is needed: loading/unloading items; data entry; working the event; and more. Call Volunteer Coordinator Jim McFadden at 707.815.2673.
