Sonoma flea market to benefit the homeless

Posted on May 24, 2023 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Homeless Action Sonoma (HAS) will stage a huge flea market at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall in Sonoma on Saturday and Sunday, June 3 and 4. Currently being collected is furniture, kitchen and home goods, jewelry, art, decorative items, and lots more stuff you didn’t know you needed.  There will be hot dogs, chili, popcorn, cold drinks and wine for purchase on Saturday, and coffee and breakfast treats on Sunday morning

The flea market hours are Saturday, June 3, from 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 10 am 2 pm. The Veterans Hall is at 126 First St. W. Admission to the grounds is free.

Annie Falandes, the director and founder of Homeless Action Sonoma started the non-profit by having a yard sale at her home which garnered roughly $30,000 to jumpstart the organization. Donations and grants keep it alive. The hope is to get near to that amount with this flea market event.

HAS facilitated the only warming station in Sonoma Valley this winter. The next project is to open the tiny homes HAS had built on a site along Highway 12 in the Springs. The Home and Safe Village of 20 tiny homes (above) will hopefully be open for occupation within two months. Proceeds from the flea market and donations will go toward the permanent central building at the site.

Donated items will be taken until May 30 and can not be received on the days of the sale.  For questions or to arrange your delivery of furniture or large items contact: Call or text Faye at 650-444-7560, or email [email protected]. Monetary donations can be sent by check to HAS, P.O. Box 482,  Sonoma, CA,  95476, or by credit or debit card or PayPal at hassonoma.org. TAX ID # 85-2764190.  Phone 707/991-0455.
