Hospital makeover project halfway home

Posted on October 8, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Only two months have passed since the hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Makeover Committee kicked off a campaign to completely remodel all 15 rooms in the unit. With the fund drive surging over the halfway mark, the goal is already in sight.

The committee has received $224,227 in donations, including $131,803 from the Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation to supply the rooms with new, “high-tech” beds and mattresses.
The committee has now raised enough to renovate eight rooms, and have only six more, plus the activity room, to go.

The project was by Helen Fernandez who was inspired during her stay in the SNF to “match the rooms with the first rate care I received while at the hospital.”

Donations of $10,000 will pay the cost of one room’s makeover and have the room named in honor of the donor, but Fernandez is emphatic that donations of any size are welcome. “My motto is, there’s no donation too large, or too small.”
