Folk artist John McCutcheon has the chops; he plays every instrument in the genre’s arsenal, including guitar, banjo, autoharp, dulcimer, fiddle and Jew’s harp. (Johnny Cash called McCutcheon “the most impressive instrumentalist I’ve ever heard.”)
He’s also got an ear for the American story, a social conscious in the great folk tradition and a voice as clear and true as an Appalachian morning. Roger Rhoten of the Sebastiani Theatre, where McCutcheon will play a Jan. 10 gig at 7:30 p.m., has said, “His stories are very humanistic, and people relate to them.
