Expect delays on Highway 12 for tree removal

Posted on February 8, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

A tree removal project will cause traffic delays on Highway 12, south of Sonoma on Wednesday.

Caltrans work will begin Wednesday morning and will involve cutting down 20 trees at or near the Schell-Vista Fire Station at the intersection of Highways 12 and 121.

According to Caltrans, 15 trees will be removed without affecting traffic. However, five other larger trees will force crews to shut Highway 12 for five to 10 minutes at a time.

The tree removal is the initial step of a summer 2011 project that will see the straightening of Highway 12 as well as the implementation of a new right-turn lane at the intersection as well as upgrade signals

The tree work will take at least two days. Work hours were unavailable.
