The movers and shakers behind most of the Valley’s nonprofits joined staff and board members of the Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Foundation and Sonoma County Vintners for the annual donation disbursement, amassed during the 2010 Sonoma Wine Country Weekend.

The Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Foundation and Sonoma County Vintners gave away some $298,500 to local charities – money that was raised during the 2010 Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, co-sponsored by the two groups.

“Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is pleased to continue to support so many of the non-profit organizations that are vital to supporting our diverse Sonoma communities,” said Maureen Cottingham, Sonoma Wine Country Weekend executive director, “The generosity of vintners and growers, as well as event attendees, resulted in an increase of more than 33% in funds that were distributed to a larger group of beneficiaries as compared to last year.”

Sonoma Valley Vintners and Growers Alliance president Eva Bertran said, “Our organizations, made up of a committed group of wineries and growers, work hard to assess the needs of residents in an attempt to help fund the organizations that meet those needs. This year, seventeen non-profits have received funds from the local wine industry.”

Grant Allocation Committee Co-Chairs Tom Menzies and Squire Fridell presented a check totaling $298,500 that was donated to the seventeen charities by Sonoma Wine Country Weekend at a presentation on February 18.

The 2010 charity beneficiaries include: 10,000 Degrees, Hanna Boys Center, La Luz, Mayacamas Fire Department, Redwood Empire Food Bank, Sonoma Community Center, Sonoma Jazz+, Sonoma Overnight Support, Sonoma Valley Education Foundation, Sonoma Valley High School Agriculture Department, Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation, Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, Sonoma Valley Teen Services, Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance Scholarship Fund, Valley of the Moon Boys & Girls Club and WillMar Center for Bereaved Children.
